Aside from its draconian screengrab and keystroke tracking, Hubstaff doesn’t do an excellent job allowing for deeper change oversight. For example, Hubstaff does not allow advanced tracking. As hardcore as Hubstaff is about tracking work, the tool doesn’t permit for IP address restrictions, which means your workers can say they’re working from the workplace but they can actually be operating from a cruise ship in the Bahamas (unless they’re using the mobile program to track time). This is a standard feature that’s available in almost every other instrument we tested. Hubstaff also doesn’t enable admins to need users to snap a photo when they report to work. I suppose it is overkill to generate someone take a selfie before you start recording their screen and monitoring their keystrokes, but TSheets lets you set this as a requirement (which makes sense, especially if you’re tracking tasks done outside of a computer, like electronic, building, or amusement work). The program also does not allow users clock via a telephone call, which is a component TSheets along with other service providers make available for workers who don’t have a smartphone.
Tracking Employee Work
We have touched on how some of Hubstaff’s more Big Brother-like attributes factor into time tracking. But the platform also offers many of the hallmarks of worker tracking tools. Hubstaff’s employee tracking features include keystroke logging, URL and application tracking, GPS and place tracking, and activity screenshots.
Once you place your users and they download the timer program onto their server, the desktop app not only tracks time but will take screenshots randomly or at custom intervals, for example three screenshots per minute. This applies not only to the user’s main display but any attached monitors too. Hubstaff doesn’t log keys however, it will monitor the action provided via the mouse and computer keyboard, providing companies a calculation of just how active the worker is.
